Course Structure
Much of the qualification is completed as home-study, including written and practical coursework making this an ideal route for those who wish to study flexibly around other commitments. The practical training days for this course will run from 9.30am – 4.30pm; although we ask students to arrive at 9.15am to ensure a prompt start.
Learn the theory of the treatment firstly and spend the majority of the training days acquiring and demonstrating practical skills. Upon completion of training and course work, arrange to attend a multiple-choice written assessment day and practical assessment days to achieve your VTCT qualification. Whilst you are perfecting your practical skills during training, you will also be consolidating your theoretical knowledge with our comprehensive study materials. Our assessment process will ensure that your techniques, from hygiene requirements to attention to detail, are at a satisfactory industry level, and re-affirm the skills learnt during your practical training. This exciting course is hands-on, provides you with in-depth detail on a range of facial treatments, and it is designed to prepare you to begin your career within the industry. The qualification not only provides you with extensive career opportunities, VTCT is also internationally recognized and demonstrates your ability to work to an industry-standard level of practice. All products and tools are provided for the training days here at our Academy when you attend. No kit is required to complete the training days. You would need to purchase a facial kit to practice the treatment you have learned at home. We provide study materials to assist you in completion of your written coursework & in preparation for your assessments. Students will require products/tools at home and to arrange models to complete their coursework/assessments.
Course Content
- Health, Safety & Hygiene
Learn the importance of maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic salon environment. Learn about sanitation protocols, proper disinfection techniques for tools and equipment, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent the spread of infections. Emphasis is placed on complying with health and safety regulations to ensure the well-being of both clients and practitioners.
- Consultations
Develop effective communication skills to conduct thorough client consultations. Learn to ask relevant questions to understand clients' skincare concerns, medical history, allergies, and lifestyle factors. By actively listening and analyzing clients' needs, tailor personalised skincare treatments and recommend suitable products.
- Skin Analysis
Through hands-on training, learn how to assess skin types, conditions, and concerns. Study the characteristics of different skin types such as oily, dry, combination, and sensitive, as well as common skin issues like acne, dehydration, and aging. By mastering skin analysis techniques, accurately diagnose skin conditions and customize treatment plans accordingly.

Explore various factors and conditions that may contraindicate skincare treatments. These include allergies, skin infections, open wounds, sunburn, recent cosmetic procedures, and certain medical conditions like rosacea or eczema. Understanding contraindications is crucial for ensuring client safety and avoiding adverse reactions during treatments.
- Cleansing, Toning & Exfoliation
Learn the foundational steps of skincare routines, starting with proper cleansing techniques to remove dirt, makeup, and impurities from the skin's surface. Study the benefits of toning to balance the skin's pH levels and prepare it for subsequent treatments. Additionally, explore exfoliation methods to slough off dead skin cells, revealing smoother and brighter complexion.
- Facial Massage Techniques
Acquire proficiency in a variety of facial massage techniques aimed at promoting relaxation, stimulating circulation, and improving skin tone and texture. Learn how to perform effleurage, petrissage, tapotement, and other massage movements to address tension, reduce puffiness, and enhance product absorption. Mastery of facial massage techniques contributes to overall client satisfaction and skin rejuvenation.
- Facial Skincare Treatment Routine
Utilise knowledge and practical skills to execute a comprehensive facial skincare treatment routine. This involves combining cleansing, exfoliation, steaming, extraction, massage, mask application, and moisturisation to address specific skincare concerns and achieve desired results. Practice sequencing treatments effectively and adjusting protocols based on individual client needs.
- Aftercare Advice
Understand the importance of providing clients with post-treatment care instructions to prolong the benefits of skincare treatments and maintain skin health. Learn to recommend suitable skincare products, sun protection measures, and lifestyle modifications to support clients' skincare goals. By offering personalised aftercare advice, practitioners ensure client satisfaction and build long-term relationships based on trust and professionalism.
