VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Nail Technology

This is a vocational VTCT qualification and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a nail technician. The structure of this VTCT qualification provides you with the flexibility to develop your knowledge, understanding and skills required to become a nail technician. By the end of the course you will have obtained the skill set and knowledge, along with a recognised qualification. Enabling you to work in a variety of environments, such as in a salon, mobile, cruise ships.

Throughout this qualification you will develop your knowledge and understanding of nail products and equipment. This includes the relevant anatomy and physiology, health and safety and client care. You will develop a range of technical skills enabling you to provide a variety of nail enhancement treatments using different techniques. Alongside this, you will also develop interpersonal skills that will assist you to communicate effectively with clients.

Course structure

You will be assessed through a combination of practical assessments, multiple choice theory exams, evidence portfolio and workbook. Learners are required to source their own clients/models for practical assessments during course times. 90% attendance is required to pass the course due to the intensity & course length. Therefore if you miss days of the course without catching up, you will not be awarded with the qualification.

Course content

• Manicure and pedicure treatments: 
  • You will learn the art of pampering hands and feet, including nail shaping, cuticle care, exfoliation and massage techniques to enhance overall nail health and appearance.
• Application and maintenance of nail enhancements: 
  • Mastery of techniques for applying and maintaining nail enhancements, such as acrylics, gels, and overlays, ensuring durability and client satisfaction.
• Client care and communication in beauty industries: 
  • Effective communication and client interaction skills are emphasized, fostering positive relationships and understanding client needs and preferences.
• Health and safety practices in the salon: 
  • Essential knowledge of salon hygiene, sanitation protocols, and infection control measures to maintain a safe and clean environment for clients and technicians.
• Personal health and well-being maintenance: 
  • Recognising the importance of self-care, you are educated on ergonomic practices, stress management and maintaining personal health and well-being amidst the demands of the profession.
• Nail enhancement using electric files: 
  • Hands-on training in the safe and effective use of electric files for shaping, refining, and perfecting nail enhancements, ensuring precision and professional results.
• Stock display for sales promotion: 
  • Strategies for effective product merchandising and display to promote retail sales and enhance the salon's profitability.
• Product and service promotion to salon clients: 
  • Techniques for promoting nail products and services to clients, including upselling, cross-selling, and developing marketing strategies to attract and retain clientele.
• Nail art design and application: 
  • Exploring creative nail art techniques, including freehand painting, stamping, embellishments and nail decal application, to offer clients personalized and on-trend nail designs.
